A generational curse is a rotating cycle of lifestyle; generational curses are passed down to us generation after generation to our children and childrens children. Generational curses come in the form of disease, life-style and toxic parenting to name a few areas. Unfortunately all of us have experienced the back lash of The Generational Curse, generaltonal curses stem back to slavery. Today I’m going to speak on disease’s and lifestyle. In the black community we are known for becoming sick and ending up with diseases such as: Diabetes, High Blood pressure, High Cholestoral, Heart Problems, Strokes to name a few. Most of the time when we have these ailments either our father, mother or our grandparents have had some of these issues or all of them as well. And thats what makes it a “Generational Curse”; the ability of passing something down from generation to generation and accepting it. What alot of people dont realize is that these generational curses can be stopped, cured, and prevented. “You are what you eat” is a translation of the French phrase “Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es.” [Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are], written by French doctor Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, in his book “Physiologie du Gout, ou Meditations de Gastronomie Transcendante, 1826”.
We as people love food and are addicted to it, some may argue that statement; but it is true. Just because you like something, it is fulfilling and it tastes good doesn’t mean that it is good for you. Our community thrives off of white sugar, white flour, flesh(meats), high fructose corn-syrup, animals milk, overcooked and processed foods (fast foods). What we don’t realize is that foods in the 1800’s and here in 2012 are totally different. In the 1800’s folk knew where there foods were coming from mostly out of their own back yards. Now in 2012 farmers are trying to feed millions of peole and need to produce in a fast pace. So out fruits, veggies, and live stock are being pumped up with hormone’s, antibiotics, steroids, and so many other chemicals. So we can’t eat the same as before.
Stop- Eating processed foods, make your own homemade meals and besides it saves you money and last longer. Clean out your cabinets of white sugar, white flours, dairy products, and limit the amount of flesh (meat) that you eat if you must have it. Or simply do away with it and adapt a lifestyle of mostly fruits and veggies. Something that you can grow yourself. Do your research.
Cure- Visit a Holistic doctor and have them work hand in hand with your doctor, excersize daily, eat to live dont live to eat, know when its your limit dont over eat, invest in your health make your health your wealth, teach your children the principles of healthy eating.
Prevention- Adapt a healthly lifestyle, stick to it, fast, cleanse, detox. Drink plenty of water, Cook with fresh herbs and veggies, make this a community effort, form an outreach program.
