Ray Rice pleaded not guilty Thursday to aggravated assault charges. He was offered a deal where he could apply for a Pretrial intervention program. TMZ first broke the story where a video showed Rice dragging his than girlfriend Janay Palmer out of a Revel Casino Hotel elevator on February 15. Police said the two were hitting each other but Rices hit knocked Palmer out.
As part o the deal the Pretrial Intervention Program allows first-time offenders to have charges against them dismissed. According to WJZ, “If PTI is successfully completed, there is no record of conviction and he would avoid the stigma of a criminal record.”
Rice was given probation with no jail time. Rice is scheduled to be back in court May 29 at 9 a.m. for a status conference. The county prosecutor decides whether or not Rice is allowed to enter the program.
