Gov. O’Malley signed a bill that requires decorative contacts only to be purchased with a prescription here in Maryland. The bill was signed Monday. The Board of Examiners in Optometry now has the authority to issue cease and desist orders. They can asses civil fines too. The fines are for illegal sales and distribution of contact lenses. Contacts can cause scratches, ulcers and bacteria infections to the cornea. These type of eye contacts change eye colors and feature designs.
