Thursday Gov. Martin O’Malley signed a bill to stop discrimination against transgender people in Maryland. The law prohibits discrimination against transgender people relating to housing, employment, credit and use of public accommodations. The law goes into effect October 1. Yet some opponents are not happy with this bill and hope that voters get the last say. The opponents need to collect 18, 579 signatures by May 31 and a total of 55, 736 signatures by June 30 to get a referendum on the ballot for the election in November.
