Nickelodean actress Alexandra Shipp will star in the role as the late R&B singer Aaliyah. This Lifetime biopic will be produced by Wendy Williams and Debra MChase. The movie production starts later this month. Shipp replaced Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman who was cast for the lead role as the R&B singer. However, Coleman exited the project in June.
“We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold,” Lifetime wrote in a statement on Twitter June 29. The Biopic titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B is set to premiere in the fall. The biopic is based on the book Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, by Christopher Farley.
