Most people think about bananas when they think about getting potassium. However there are others foods out there that are high in potassium such as white beans, dried apricots, salmon, spinach, dates, and prunes. Potassium is said to help prevent strokes according to a new study. A new report in the journal Stroke says that women can reduce the risk of stroke if they had higher levels of potassium. If potassium is too low or too high it can impact the heart. A potassium supplement can be taken but a person would be missing out on the taste of potassium rich foods.
If you do not like bananas by themselves, include them in a shake. One of my favorite ways to eat bananas is adding them to my chocolate protein smoothie. Salmon is delicious and spinach is really good sautéed along with adding it into a smoothie. See link to Pineapple Kale Smoothie below. The spinach can be substituted for the kale. Yeah I know it looks funny but it is so good. It has been said that dates and prunes do have higher potassium compared to bananas.
