Malcolm-Jamal Warner Weighs In on Ebony Magazine’s Cosby Cover

If Ebony magazine wanted to create some social media controversy they succeeded. I must admit I was taken aback with that November cover of Ebony and yes I know the what the reason is as why they did that. Some believe it was reaching. Others believed that they should have directed their displeasure in Bill Cosby towards the actor himself and not the show. The November issue cover has a picture of a shattered iconic Huxtable family from “The Cosby Show” in a shattered frame. While some believes it’s appropriate, not everyone is pleased with this including Malcolm Jamal. Warner told the Huffington Post, “he was sad to see Ebony, “one of the voices of the black community,” take down the esteemed Huxtable clan.”

“[The cover is] contributing to the stereotypical image that society has of the broken black family and the shattered black family,” Warner told host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani. “And to take something that … for 20 [or] 30 years has been what we have held up as the black family that we all want to aspire to, in terms of the love that we don’t see when we see black families in the media — to take that image and to shatter it, it’s disappointing to a lot of us.”
