This week Wegmans recalled more than 1,000 pounds of chicken products that was packaged without federal inspection. The recall items were packaged and sent to Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia on Sunday.
Jo Natale, vice president of media relations, said the Sherry Chicken product is not sold to consumers and it is an ingredient in an item prepared in stores. Any time a product is not checked by a federal inspector, a Class I recall is issued, she said.
They are:
• Wegmans Italian Marinated Chicken Breast Cutlets in 1-pound packages with a January 24 use-by date
• Wegmans Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet in 1-pound packages with a January 15 use-by date
• Wokery Sherry Chicken 27482 in 1-pound packages with a January 13 use-by date
• Wegmans Ready To Cook Garlic & Fennel Seasoned Chicken in 3-pound packages with a January 13 use-by date.
A Class I recall is considered “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
On its product recalls page, Wegmans said it was giving full refunds and listed 1-800-934-6267, ext. 4760 as a number for consumers with questions about the recall.
